We are living in a society where people are constantly crying suicide for attention. Where it is the ones who never say anything about it that end up dead. A society in which it is normal to joke about suicide, rape, murder. Desensitized? No. Insensitive. They never think about the one next to them, listening, the one who thinks about these things everyday. The ones who go through with it. "Oh, how sad. Moving on now." We are living in a society in which everyone is on antidepressants. They pump us full of pills to shut off our brains. "Don't think, just do what everyone else is doing..." Pretending they want to kill themselves, just so people will listen, and comfort, and pay attention to them. But it only lasts so long. It is one thing after another with these people. It just never ends, does it? Of course it does. They cannot escape the death they claim to long for.

Dirty Laundry, by Don Henley

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed bleach-blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
Its int'resting when people die
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

This is the machine we feed and then watch it do it's tricks. When the news stops being entertainment maybe we'll stop feeding it entertaining bits of our lives and then be horrified when it treats our horrors as entertainment. It's a pretzel, this relationship between news, entertainment, and real life.
Your observations are quite cogent. "Normal" is a fuzzy word, like "freedom".
Antidepressants and antianxietants (is that a word?) are depressing. I don't take them anymore. However, I stopped taking them verrry slowly, and now when I'm depressed I feel normal. :)

I went to see your pictures...I spread them across the floor...
So this is where they are shown...Now they're probably saying to you...
If you keep it up you'll be born. --Jane's Addiction
Evolution is slow. Suicide is painless.

It is not just the media, though. The so-called 'emo' epidemic. It is everywhere. And it is completely disgusting.

I've been on and off of antidepressants since 3rd grade, and sadly, still have hope that they will work. I had one that did, but I went and fucked myself over by trying to overdose on them, and now they make me sick.

The other day I was reading an article of a 3 year old little girl who would throw fits with out being able to wear make-up or if her hair wasn't just right. Our society as Americans we have become rude and self centered.
Obsessed with the images we see in magazines and televison. We get plastic surgery to look like everyone else. We should embrace our individualities.

I refuse to go to doctors or take medication.

I know what's wrong with me and how to fix it to an extent. Some people do need medication but I'm throughly against medicating young children and teens.

It can be.

If they made you better why did you try to overdose? The emo thing has been around forever. The 80's it was 'goth' the 50's it was 'beatnik'.

Medication causes suicide in teens. Children and teens are highly medicated here.

Both the shooters from Columbine were on Prozac.
Go figure.

Insanity is a legal term, not medical. Insanity is not about what you think, it's about what you do.

What have you done?
Because something happened that I couldn't deal with.

It can, but not always.

I agree that people should be individualistic.

Hopefully, over time, I will be able to fix things without the use of meds.
